Pantellos Launches New Benchmarking Services

Benchmarking has become an important tool to help companies compare and contrast their performance with others, identify performance gaps and share best practices. Using the new Benchmarking Services from Pantellos, utility customers can now measure themselves against industry peers in areas not currently benchmarked by other organizations.

Pantellos designed Supply Chain Benchmarking Services to help utilities assess their current organizational performance, identify supply chain issues and improvement opportunities, and understand leading best practices. Through benchmarking, Pantellos provides in-depth performance analysis in specific, strategically important areas, such as essential business processes and critical supply chain categories, as well as industry-specific best practices.

As the leading electronic marketplace and supply chain services company for the utility industry, Pantellos has unparalleled access to utility company supply chain operations. Pantellos' benchmarking process begins by soliciting participants for a particular study. Pantellos then collects specific information from each participant, maintaining strict confidentiality throughout the process. Pantellos compiles the information and develops a benchmarking report and distributes a customized report to each participant. The report includes data only from the participating utilities, and results are reported in aggregate form.

The collection of supply chain benchmarking studies will be organized as a series of “chapters,” with each benchmarking study constituting a separate “chapter.” Each study will examine a specific business area (such as nuclear, fossil or T&D); a business process (such as strategic sourcing, transaction processing or outsourcing); or a supply chain category (such as boilers, electric meters or transformers). Pantellos will select benchmarking topics based on customer input. Each chapter will be developed and purchased separately.

Pantellos recently completed its first benchmarking study (Chapter 1) that analyzed overall utility supply chain organizational efficiency and effectiveness. This study was conducted free of charge to introduce the new benchmarking service. Twelve participating utilities received a customized results report that covered operating size and scope, efficiency of the procurement organization, savings effectiveness, including first cost and total cost, and a summary and ranking in the benchmarked efficiency and effectiveness measures.

Other interested utilities can still participate in the first benchmarking study for free by requesting a survey from Matt Worth, director of supply management services at Pantellos.

In June, Pantellos will develop the benchmarking topic road map with the Services Task Force, a team of utility supply chain directors that provides feedback and guidance to Pantellos in the development of its services.

Utility customers may subscribe to all benchmarking services for a flat fee or may choose to subscribe to individual chapters only. For more information or to participate in future benchmarking, please contact Matt Worth or your Pantellos Development Manager.
